We Will Remember…

Author: Amy  //  Category: Uncategorized

Today we remember all of those who lost their lives today, those who gave their time to help find survivors. We remember everyone who was involved with 9/11 and ground zero.

12 years ago, the United States of America, and everyone around the world was devastated. We have come back from that, though, and we will never forget those who are not with us today.

The Mixtape Anthem written interview

Author: Amy  //  Category: Written Interview

1. How did you come up with the name The Mixtape Anthem?
Growing up, mixtapes were a big thing. Nowadays they’re called playlists, but to us mixtapes were carefully selected songs for how you were feeling, what you were going through, ect. Those songs were our anthems, the soundtrack for different seasons of our lives. That’s what we want our music to be.

2. What is the craziest thing that has happened so far?
Ask us after a few shows on tour and we’ll have some stories haha

3. How did you create The Mixtape Anthem?
We’ve been best friends for years. We made the decision in 2006 to pursue a career in music together. We’ve played in different bands, but now with The Mixtape Anthem we feel we’re in a better place to make playing music for a living a reality.

4. What are your hope for for the upcoming year?
We’re planning on releasing a new EP this Fall and then touring. We can’t wait to play shows again.

5. Besides music, what are some of your interests and hobbies?
We’re really into filmmaking. Sam actually graduated from the Art Institute of California in Sacramento.

6. Where do your inspirations some from?
For the most part, our inspiration comes from what’s happened or what’s happened in our lives.

7. If you had to describe your band in 3 words, what would they be?
Passionate, Honest, Fun

8. If you were in a horror movie, what role would you play; the monster, the victim or the hero? Why?
We’d probably be the heroes. We’ve seen so many horror movies that we know what to do in order to survive.

9. What do you hope to achieve 5 years from now?
We hope to be playing music for a living, making music that people can connect with, and we’d like to be signed to a major label.

10. What would you be doing if you weren’t making music?
If we weren’t doing music, we’d be involved in filmmaking.

11. If you could meet any celebrity, who would it be and why?
Demi Lovato and Katy Perry. They’re our celebrity crushes haha

12. If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see play the lead role as you?
Ryan Reynolds and Joseph Gordon-Levitt

13. If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be? Why?
Probably trade places with Captain America and Thor

14. If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
The ability to fly. Traveling would be easier haha

15. What is some advice you would give someone who is trying to break into the music industry?
First off, be honest. Make music that you love, whether it’s a popular genre or not. Second, have fun. If you’re not having fun, there’s no point. Thirdly, promote. You have to let people know you’re there!

Billy Talent is a Canadian punk band that started in Mississauga, Ontario. They formed in 1993 with Ben Kowalewicz (lead vocalist) Ian D’Sa (lead guitar), Jon Gallant (bassist) and Aaron Solowoniuk (drummer).  The members met and played under the name Pezz and remained in Toronto’s indie music scene until 2001. In the fall of 2003, the band released their full-length self-titled album, Billy Talent.

Billy Talent’s second album, Billy Talent II came out on June 27, 2006. The album did extremely well in Canada in its first week, landing in at number 1 on the Canadian charts. The album contained less anger then their previous album, as they matured as a band.  A lot more of the album and songs dealt with real-life issues. Devil in a Midnight Mass is the first single released from Billy Talent’s second album, “it’s from a story I read about Boston priest John Geoghan who had been arrested for child abuse and the church kept moving him from parish to parish. The Supreme Court tried and convicted him of molesting 150 kids over a 30-year span”.-Benjamin Kowalewicz.

Their fourth album, Billy Talent III was released on July 14, 2009 but on September 22, 2009, it was released in the United States. In the summer 2009, Billy Talent toured North America with Rise Against and Rancid.  The band also played the main stage at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in the summer of 2010, it was announced by the band that they are going to be taking a break before working on their next album.

In April 2011, Ben stated that “At this point there is no time frame for touring, as our main priority is finishing writing and recording this new record”. The album’s first single, Viking Death March, was released on May 26, 2012 and landed at #3 on the Canadian rock/alternative charts. Billy Talent’s Song Viking Death March were nominated at the 2013 Canadian Juno awards, for single of the year. The band released the album on September 4, 2012, and named it Dead Silence.
